MUNUS was pretty eventful and unforgettable. Thanks to Medsoc who've been losing sleep etc over it. Though its not over until tomorrow anyway...

Friday Julia and I went to watch frisbee and netball. It was soooo cool the way the pro frisbee players can manipulate their frisbee... Like "some UFO, you understand" in Daniel Hap's words.

Today was very memorable.

Handball started early in the morning, and against a Malaysian team which was about KE's standard (compared to NUS Medfac which was below heh) I managed to turn in a pretty decent performance. Thought it was going to be easy until a Malaysian player released a scorcher to the corner (shades of Eusoff Hall) which I contacted with my third and fourth fingers. I dunno whether I deflected it (I'd like to think so), but it glanced off the bar and behind the goal to my relief. It was darn scary.

Their right winger was their only threat (kinda like C. R o naldo) cos his fast break was ultra siao. The first time, Li Heng managed to force him into a corner so that I could stop the shot but Cadet Hee didn't manage to take the rebound, so Mr. Right Winger opened his three steps and shot home. They were really good. Before long they were 3-0 up, every single shot from the 6m line. Zzzzz.

But I was very very happy, cos in the next 12 or so minutes, Mr. RW fast broke twice and both times I saved the one-on-one hahahahahah =DD Am very elated with that, timed the run out perfectly if I say so myself =D As well as a diving stop from a 9m throw. And on the other end, Hanjie and Li Heng scored to make it 3-2 at halftime.

In the next half I was not playing and neither was Hanjie cos he'd gone to play badminton. I think the team missed him more than me cos, it was pretty chaotic and we got whacked 12-4 but at least at the end of the day I only conceded 1/4 of the goals. Mr RW scored all but one of the remaining shots I think... But as I said I was very happy cos the shots I let in were all point blank and not stupid 9m shots...

Next was futsal against M3s which went ok until when jumping for a highball, the M3 I was competing with (who to me, was about the size of a small whale) bowled me over like a insect hitting a car at high speed and tapped in the ball BEFORE I COULD EVEN TOUCH IT. Proves the point that I'm too light to be a good soccer keeper. Better handball with your own private 6m zone =D

Then was the most unforgettable moment of the day. A guy named Joel (who turned out to be the Medsoc Sports Secretary OMGoodness) asked me to referee girls' handball. It proved to be very tiring cos both sides were wearing black and really had to run like free (unlike the players I had no substitutions heh). But refereeing foil matches really helped to keep concentration and after a few mistakes at the start then I managed to get into a smooth rhythm.

May I also say that it was ironically appropriate that I was refereeing this match cos I am half-Malaysian myself =D

The Malaysian keeper was surprisingly good even though she was really small (a fact exploited by the tall NUS shooters), but managed to keep the score difference at only 1 or 2 goals apart. This proved to be decisive cos UM equalized in the last 2 minutes -_-"' which I was hoping wouldn't happen cos I was from NUS and cos I was getting really tired.

Refereeing was pretty interesting cos the nature of this game was that it didn't need many halts like in IHG. For one thing, clamping was few and when it occured, was highly ineffective. No one was totally immobilized and most still managed to pass the ball out, so I didn't have to blow for 9 meters..

But anyway when it came down to penalties, it transpired that while one of our NUS girls was shooting (a very good shot it was too, into the corner), her foot crossed the penalty line. I called the foul and asked her to retake the shot which was saved. And ultimately, though it wasn't a crucial call cos we were already trailing, it wasn't a very pleasant one to say the least. Especially when it was made in front of a lot of people (including what seemed like half of the organizers) and a lot of people who knew me at least by name.

Sigh. Seems like a lot of people expected me to turn a blind eye to what seems like a minor infringement, but I guess my OG people know I'm particular about these kinda things huh... Oh well. So much for "serving with pride, honour and integrity"

But on the whole MUNUS was good in that I made quite a number of new friends across the levels, at least by sight. And made a new Malaysian friend as well, though I guess it'll be a long time if ever we see each other.

Hopefully, will have time and energy to go to KL for MUNUS 09 =D
