Back from fencing camp! This is the first time I've gone for really 24 hours without sleep haha... Even during SJ camps I managed to squeeze in an hour or two, be it in a bunk or just one of AHS' much-vandalised tables...

Hope I can get pictures and stuff from Shaun-Paul in the near future

Anyway it was different from last year's in that it had a lot more components, and a mini-trip out of FM heh... The tournament was also held from 10 pm to 5 am =Pp

As it happened, through hmmm both of us losing matches that we should actually could have won, Maurice and i had to fence in the first direct elimination round, and it was kinda fun since we know each other's favourite moves so well (his disengages and accuracy versus my parries and speed), so we really went at it hammer and tongs, and the match, as Shaun-Paul later told me, "looked like a lightsabre duel out of star wars" whoo! rather than the usual slow and careful epee bout

But anyway it culminated with Maurice chasing me off the piste in priority time (darn!) cos I was too busy having fun and because the reel which I was using as reference had been pushed back.... the final score was 5-6, which just shows how hard it is for us to score points off each other (especially when we're sleep deprived).. But we had fun, and I'm sure our audience did too =)

Anyway did refereeing for the rest of the session (and refereed the guys' final too).... If I can't be a national fencer, maybe I can be a national fencing referee... But nah, no skill in refereeing epee anyway..

Got to know the junior batches from CJC and ITE Balestier better during the course of the camp too I suppose... Although when one talks to them, one realizes that VJ's fencing situation is really quite pathetic... Especially to hear other schools describe their "fencing rooms", their "pistes" and their "school blades"...

So am online now trying to keep awake till 7 pm, or after dinner when I can probably sleep without being afraid of waking up in the middle of the night... St. John stuff on very early in the morning tomorrow...

Well I take it back, to all those people to whom I said I am relatively bored... There seem to be quite a lot of things to do suddenly =Pp

Hmmm I've come to this realization... I have two active CCAs now... and my career options either tend to

a) being a doctor and using the skills I know to (besides saving people), teach first aid and medical stuff or

b) be a teacher, come back to VJ (a long shot) and be the teacher IC of the fencing team

Wonder which one it will be... or maybe there's a third option which I haven't considered yet, but that's into the hands of God...

Oh yea... I know I shouldn't be counting down, but dec is drawing to a close and suddenly there seem to be precious few things between now n NS....

Wah so many things happened in the past few days, and all bloggable material to boot, that I don't know where to begin.... They include two very very ultra super funny incidents that happened (which I don't think I can write about in one post =Pp)

This post is quite long, so be patient =) Sorry I know it may be hard to read

1. I shifted room to my previous room which I shared with my brother when I was in lower secondary (until I couldn't stand his sleeping with a nightlight, and he couldn't stand my rather spooky talking in my sleep), cos my aunt and grandmother are moving back to their flat in bedok (where I spent a lot of my pre-primary school life =D).... So I had a window, and a proper bed haha...

In moving my stuff, I also unearthed a lot of old clothes....

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
My scout uniform, which I lovingly prepared every pre-CCA night from P3 onwards... Plus, of course, all the badges which, for a cadet scout, were our pride and joy haha... On the left sleeve, the Bronze Arrow (I was about get silver when the syllabus changed or something), on the right, the crime prevention and swimming badges, and on the left chest, the yellow Assistant Sixer badge (I got promoted to Sixer in P6 and then my six was immediately disbanded cos the teacher then decided to split us as levels blahhhh)... Hoho such memories.... And what a tiny person I used to be too!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
A history of AHS PE shirts... Pity my sec. 1 one has been thrown away already =( The one which looked like a cleaner's shirt, except the right collar had a red embroidered eagle)... Then there was the dark green one which didn't fade which I wore in sec. 3, the dark green which faded like siao which I wore in sec. 2 (it looks bigger than the sec. 3 one in the photo, don't know why =/) and the button-less striped one which I'm still using occasionally haha...

Heard they changed the PE shirt AGAIN! This time there's less green and more white or something...

But anyway at the end of the day, my grandmother came back to stay, so I'm back in my old room, which actually I don't mind aha...

2. Christmas Party at cell group! It was a success, a decent number of people came, the food was good as were the games haha.... "Chng Chng Chng" nearly killed us all cos it was so funny!!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Shawn trying to pass a highly distorted message to Chee Kit, who is looking quite confused (and I don't blame him ahaha!)

The testimonies were good (especially Yen Chin's, which was aimed at Dezhi and I, as it was about his life in NS) as was the worship (always a pleasure to sing carols!) and of course, we got to meet new people... Hopefully the group will expand haha

3. Class outing after church on sunday after our Christmas service (or as near as it came to that)... It was not as disastrous as I feared it would be *phew* went to eat at New York New York.... I ate fish and chips, which is a relatively and stereotypically weird dish to be eating at an american place haha... Then we had candy floss hoho... Literally eat sugar and air... Then various people had to rush off, so since Enjie, Alon, Keefe (who later broke off) and I had nothing to do, we decided to go to Liling's gospel service thing at her church at Ang Mo Kio.

As it happened, the train at City Hall was so packed that by the time the automated "Doors closing" came on, the 5 of us hadn't got on yet, so Liling and I ran along the length of the train and leapt into the adjacent door, even as the thing went "beepbeepbeepbeepbeep" and the door just missed my leg =D so we were calling Enjie they all to meet us at Somerset (cos we had spent a significant amount of time catching our breaths and laughing heheh)

So we alighted at Somerset, waved to Stella and Christl and waited... And lo! the next train came with the usual fanfare of "mind the platform gap" and there was this lady with five little kids who were trying to get in at the same time before the passengers could alight (as my HSVed classmate said, "typical singaporeans") so there was a mini jam at the door, and we were being so entertained that it apparently slipped our minds to go to another door... So by the time I stuck my big head in, the door was already closing... And much as I didn't look forward to NS, I didn't want to be decapitated either, so I had to withdraw my cranium and both of us watched the train whizz off.

The funny side struck us at the same time and we laughed until we neared (or for me lar =Pp) asphyxiation ahaha! I've never seen two bunches of people miss the MRT consecutively before! I mean, it only happens once in a lifetime or something! Man.... Sigh... anyway we caught them up at AMK in the end...

The church service was nice.... Sang "And Can it Be" among some others... The message was followable also... Interesting to talk to the other members of the church, who were very friendly also... It reminded me of my old church actually, or what I can remember about it... Hmm maybe all churches with the "bethesda" in the name are all somewhat like that?

Yup so anyway that was it for Sunday...

4. Christmas Day itself passed nicely... Spent a bit of the day with classmates, both present and past, and a lot of fun conversations, learned a lot about NS from Mursjid, and went to watch Curse of the Golden Flower with family, which is a really weird show... Some unanswered questions =/

Well, so that its for now then! Fencing camp next on the list!

Have been in contact with a couple of my classmates who're in NS... thing is, they're coming out only on sunday night, and so the next we'll meet them will probably be around new year... From the tone of their voices, they sound quite cheerful haha I guess the last few hours of each day is a time to be happy about... But no doubt I'll be finding out for my own in the near future...

Had our youth group Christmas party this evening... It was a really great success (pictures to come maybe?) and the company was good too! So, incidentally, was the food, especially the apple pie which my sister baked haha, and the ham provided by one of the Shawns...

As usual, Dezhi, Chee Keen and Yen Chin were very funny too

Well, Christmas service (or as near as it comes to one, since my church doesn't hold a "Christmas Service" per se) tomorrow... guess I should be sleeping cheerio!

Changed the main picture at last... Found and photo-edited an old picture of my sister and I playing in the snow in Austria when I was in Pr 2 and my father had a job thingy in Europe (which contributed to the fact that I cannot donate blood since we visited England not long after this picture was taken).. So this will probably be here till CNY haha unless I'm feeling hardworking

Exactly two years ago, we (the MK climbers)were preparing to pack up and leave from Kota Kinabalu..

Hmmm anyway I broke my distance record for running, by running to Bedok Reservoir, round it, and back in one and a half hours so am very proud of myself haha... Still, that means that the 12.5 km run was made at an average speed of 2.31 m/s, which, translated, would be speed at which I would run a 2.4 in 17 minutes...

Unfortunately the last 4 km was made in torrential rain cos the clouds closed in and the sky burst like a full plastic bag just after I finished running round the reservoir, so needless to say, I got wet and my shoes fell apart even more heh and I had knee pain for the rest of the night plus the day after bleah... Anyway this prompted my mother to escort me to Raffles City yesterday and obtain a pair of shoes which are more adept to my slightly flat feet (which are not flat enough to exempt me from NS though heh)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The running route which I took

Also went to watch Casino Royale (at last!!) yesterday! For a horrible period I thought it was another show that I was going to miss haha...

Having watched every of the other dunno-how-many James Bond films, I think this one was actually quite good in terms of filming and plot etc (I actually had to think)!! But it was quite unique unto itself also... It was more "Bourne" rather than "Bond" though, since it didn't have its trademark outrageous gadgets (unlike the more hmm realistic ones in the MI or Bourne series) or super-villans as the critics said... And for once he used his handphone more than he used his watch... As my father said, it was more like a good spy story, but not really James Bond

SPOILERS (although everyone should have watched it by now)
I also liked his pocket defibrillator heheh... It would be a useful thing to include in a first aid kit for SJers no? haha

Anyway a few more prom photos which I obtained for Gerry and Enjie

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Enjie, Nelson and I before prom started... Somehow all of us look either stunned or sleepy.. Hmm haha

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
After prom at one of the bridges near Fullerton... My head looks hmm delocalized from the rest of my body which cannot be seen anyway.. cool eh ahah

Well that shall be it for now... Looks like this week is becoming more busy than I thought it would be...

Well! The things that have transpired since I last blogged:

1. RJ Invites... Hmmm read our fencing blog for details... I lost to the B-Division champion from Tanglin 15-14 pahhhh... It was really close and I really should have done better but oh whatever.. But on the happier note, today I've got my V-blade! So now my preciousssss which is optimized for flicking and close quarters is back... Never noticed how much the blade was angled before really haha...

Well pictures.. From top left clockwise

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Daniel (back facing camera), Maurice (on the right) fencing a Tanglin guy (can tell by the glove), the VJ team, one of the times this year where instead of everyone looking grim, people actually look like they're enjoying themselves! and finally another shot of Maurice fencing the same guy..

2. Church Camp! Was a wonderful exciting thoroughly fun 4 days! Whoohoo!! Like we shared in Youth group, God really spoke to us during the camp, and each of us had things in the message o words which applied to us personally so it was good! For myself was the bit about "Denying yourself" i.e. giving up everything to God and trusting him for your own provision.... Maybe I should start attending prayer meeting and be less superficial about reading the Bible..

Of course, the company was great as well (as was the food =D).. Got to know the youths better, even my own cousins! Haha well after 4 days of eating together, planning games, sitting next to one another during sessions, playing soccer during R&R, and bridge-ing, watching Arsenal draw with Chelsea and playing murderer into the wee hours of the night, it was kinda inevitable...

Incidentally I played soccer for the first time in hmmm 6, 7 months? Although my goalkeeping was so off that instead of deflecting the balls to the side of the goal, or turning them over the top, I kept knocking them back into the paths of the oncoming attackers to tap into empty nets =Pp, pulled my left shoulder and got a lovely abraision on the knee while diving (amateurishly). Heh still it was thoroughly enjoyable =)

Feel closer to the church community after the camp (after all, we are quite a small group so its easy to get to know one another), and I'm doubly happy that no one ever graduates from church unlike school... This makes church friends a unique group from CCA- or class-mates... Not that the latter lack in my value of their friendship, just saying that the friendship is a little different (Just like any friends made in NS in the future will be different too)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The view from the 5th floor where my room was... It was an overcast day when I took the picture, but just as well... If it was sunny, the camera phone would have just shown silhouettes

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The swim-up bar at the hotel swimming pool (when I was out walking on the first night with Dezhi and Zijun) quite cool... although I dunno who would swim and stop for a drink at the same time! The first night was stormy... Lightning and all... rained later during the night and turned the soccer field muddy!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The first session! Dezhi (here karaoke-ing heh),

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Timmy (my cousin at the guitar), Chee Kit (accompanying Dezhi heheh) and I went up early before everyone else, mainly cos Tim and CK were doing worship and I had to do the projection duty (or laptop duty haha), and having finished preparing, we were just fooling around =D

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
On the last night, the church celebrated my parents' 25th anniversary!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
And the devotion sheet we were given... Instinct made me write the above-shown cos I had been kinda distracted when the sheets were given out... Just shows the impact of JC life...

Yup so that was it for Church Camp... Thank God for the marvelous experiences we had!

3. I ran 7 km for the first time in my life... But for an eyelash that inverted and stabbed my eye, I would have reached Bedok Reservoir!

4. Dinner and stuff with church friends from Australia, but I shall leave that to another post... This one is already getting very HTML rich...

By now, almost half the guys in my class are in NS... Hmmm its a funny thought and one which keeps me awake at night... 4 weeks to go... Well, let's see how it goes... Meanwhile i need to find something meaningful to do...

Saturday, December 09, 2006

Well ok about SDD...

SDD Day kicked off with Maurice and I going to FM to fence, at what was the conclusion of CJC's training session... Anyway we fenced each other twice... He won once 15-11 and I won once 15-11 too haha.... But both attempts nearly killed me (lack of oxygen, also known as asphyxia).... Cynthia thought we were mad to be fencing on the day of our prom haha... Which I began to concur when I picked up two bad scars on my left hand which are still here 4 days on)

Maurice Cynthia and I had lunch with (Matt + Shaun-paul) Lopez then pushed off on our individual ways... Was contemplating bathing, sleeping and waking up with styled hair haha but decided it was too risky, so ended up doing Christmas Card and playing Halo...

We rendevoused and arrived at the hotel 20 minutes before 6 pm because of a gross underestimation of how much time we had left! And my nerves were completely on the edge waiting to run into someone I knew... Actually the first people in question were David Poh and Darel but no matter...

Ran into Nelson 10 minutes before 6... Or rather he walked right past me, which was quite heheh sad cos as Pei En said later on, he's the one who looked different with his gelled hair whereas I looked normal (albeit plus the jacket)...

SDD on the whole was quite fun!As in, it was a great night cos of all the company and etc, as well as the novelty of seeing all one's friends dressed up haha...

Thing is that the MC, I felt, wasn't as good as say, the one from AHS cos sigh somehow I didn't find him funny (and I find things funny quite easily, even things that really shouldn't be)... And some of the bands were just noisy.. The second last one absolutely mangled "I want to hold your hand" by The Beatles. I guess being a band, they deserve a little artistic liberty, but for a person who appreciates old songs, I felt quite.... sick...

Food was not too bad haha... except the portions were kinda small... The spare portion of food at our table was willingly eaten between ChuaH, David Poh and Darel hoho... Actually David Poh had spent half the night chasing Darel away from the food, and the second half of the night eating the food at the space vacated by Darel =Pp

Anyway things wrapped up at around 12.10, then a bunch of us went to stroll along the Singapore River and talk and etc (I nearly lost my tie if it weren't for Gerry I think?)... Then Christl, Gerry and I pushed off home and let the rest walk on... Gerry's brother gave me a lift home which saved me a load of trouble =) thanks to him yea. So that concluded SDD... some pictures...

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Various pictures of my classmates and myself... Still missing a few though... So from top left and reading from left to right, me with ChuaH, Alon, Charmaine, Enjie, Mursjid, Christl, Vibha, Stella, and GerryPeiEn and ChuaH... The last one is just a picture of the hotel, which was decorated very nicely haha... Although I heard from various sources that the size and furnishing of the closets and toilets in the hotel rooms were quite spectacular too!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Class picture... Here with everyone relatively normal

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
And here with the girls acting slightly funnily =D

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Victoria, fencing vice-captain

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Bernice, who is, as far as I'm concerened, still a SJ squadmate =)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
And finally, Mursjid and I next to the giant Christmas tree in the hotel lobby (which looks edible to me haha)

Why does my expression always remain the same?! I look like a cardboard cutout -_-"'

Yup so that was it, and I'm going to backup my pictures so that they don't go the same way as my sec. 4 ones... heh...

Church Camp starting tomorrow and ending Wednesday!

I wrote a nice long post on prom, then the comp had a spasm and wiped it out sobsob... so I'll do it tomorrow, or rather today... after I've gotten more pictures also...

Watched Alon's video which was really good... I was alternately laughing out loud, or feeling exceedingly sad that it was already over... But the picture of Gerry and Dawn "mourning" on Mursjid's "dead body" still cracks me up everytime I look at it =D It was a very long time ago we were sitting on the concourse steps, and those with camera phones were taking pictures and bluetoothing it around... Then I still only had a Nokia 2100, which, incidentally, I'm re-using when I enlist...

Similarly, its been a long time since the Phoenix cheerleaders were performing in the gathering dusk and I was trying to use mine and Stella's phone simultaneously to take video clips.... Pity then I still didn't know how to turn my phone pictures to "high quality", having just obtained a 6230 at Alon's encouragement ("so many of our classmates are using it!") so my pics of that day are more blue and grainy...

But still, JC life appears to have only just gone by... Its as though I went through orientation, JMS, JTS, STJ, the class outings, soccer finals, cross-countries, track and fields, suntec mass dances, concerts and etc all in one day that's in the not too distant past....

Anyway yea that's all I shall say for now... Or I'll be raving about JC for a very long time, which I'll leave to another time maybe... Prom pictures and etcetc to come if my computer is nice to me...

The new CD my father bought for me is great! I love old songs! Haha...

Oh don't it hurt deep inside
To see someone do something to her
Oh don't it pain to see someone cry
Oh especially if someone is her

CHORUS:
Silence is golden, but my eyes still see
Silence is golden, golden, but my eyes still see

Talking is cheap, people follow like sheep
Even though there is nowhere to go
How could she tell he deceived her so well
Pity she'll be the last one to know

[Chorus]

How many times did she fall for his line
Should I tell her, or should I be cool
And if I try I know she'll say I lie
Mind your business, don't hurt her, you fool

[Chorus]

-Silence is Golden, Tremeloes

This is also a nice song, although its kinda sad, especially the last verse... But its the song who's tune has been buzzing in my head for as long as I can remember, and then the thing is that I've never heard it since now, so I thought it was just a song that God had put in my head... Then I finally found it in this CD heheh

Pity its a very hard song to sing out loud, and even harder to whistle cos of the large range of notes or whatever they're called...

Anyway hmmm SJ BBQ yesterday... Squad 1 '04 (or squad 4 '07) opened their chalet for us, sort of a continuation of farewell... Haha very fun... from our squad the two Weis, XuanMing and Evelyn turned up (and me)... Ate quite well for a BBQ haha... Had a hilarious marshmallow session heheh

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The innovative automatic marshmallow BBQ-ing system invented by Crystal

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Then there was one which got left too long and started oozing into the grill, taking the shape of a snowman yuck haha!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Clarice, Jonathan and Jovin examining the snowman

Sing-a-long was also great, although some of the Chinese songs were still very fast so I was struggling with them haha.... Oh yea... Wei Quan and I were making wax balls on the ends of satay sticks using the tea light candles... Then I gave one to Wei Lun telling him it was a marshmallow and the fellow took me seriously and ate the thing... He avenged himself by yelling "You need hanyupinyin or not?" during the sing-a-long heheh...

Super funny... We were in one corner of the chalet converting the song "peng you" into English impromptu heh... I nearly died of laughter (the Jackie Chan show effect =Pp)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Well ok SDD is in slightly less than 36 hours.... Think I shall just leave my hair alone lar...

Sunday, December 03, 2006

Hohoho.... Well, since my prom outfit was settled in about... err.. 5 seconds actually (so hopefully it isn't too much of a disaster), now all i have to do is cut my hair... Even if I don't do something funny with my hair, I have to trim it a bit cos I really look like a coconut on a stick...

Anyway went out yesterday to check eyes... My eyes are still at a steady 9 plus diopters.... Myopia describes a sigmoid curve too... Looks like I've reached the decelerating phase heheh... Then my father and brother and I went to town to buy some CDs... So managed to find a whole collection of old old songs which I shall peruse at my leisure ahaha....

That said, its very weird to HAVE leisure... I feel so so so decadent having nothing to study, and just hmmm enjoying myself... Its a little hard to get a job too with about 5 weeks to NS, with church camp and etc... I'm enlisting the day before mock comp so I don't get to help out in that either... I wish there were more meaningful things to do... Hmm...

FM open was today... An unmitigated disaster for me... Did about 15 close quarters and didn't score on a single one... And somemore my eyes erupted due to AC sigh so vision was very funny, flickering lights and all. Body veryvery unfit! Lost like 5-1, 5-1, 5-0, 5-0.... I mean I did my compound parries ok, but when I make the final attack then cannot.... I need to find the form I had before hmmm A-division? (although it wasn't so good then, its just that then I was hungrier for an individual medal, so yar) To cap it all off, I dropped a heavy spanner on my foot before the competition started... didn't cause harm but it was a harbinger of what was to come haha...

Going back to fencing is like returning to my third home, as mentioned before.... The past week has been great is that sense... wrestling a bag of equipment up the stairs, poking Felix the Dummy, doing footwork, getting a mass of bruises (ok that's kinda masochistic), staying to talk to Coach late into the night while waiting for parents to come, then carrying everything back down the building at 10.30 pm complaining to each other about all our mistakes as per tradition heh...

Also saw a lot of old friends like Zi Xian, Kimie, Shan Shan, Cephas, Cynthia, Gaya, Hanwen, Benison etcetcetcetc-to-the-power-of-a-lot as well as getting to know the CJC and ITE year 1s... although today I got thrashed by many of them... And of course, all our juniors yup!

On the other hand, I think my V-blade might be terminally damaged... Even after soldering, the groove on the tang is giving a lot of problem to Coach... And I thought foils were technically very complex!!

Anyway stayed the whole day, helped to keep scores, helped to referee two matches (heheh I can speak a LITTLE bit of French! I'm quadrilingual!) and at the end of the whole thing, I (all of us) got a free shirt, a bottle of new water and a Neurovision cap to go with my FM shirt haha... Maurice and Jon Boon also won a little vacum cleaner each during the lucky draw hoho..

Well, so that's been the past few days... This week...

SDD
RJ Invite
Church Camp!!

and anything else that anyone can come out with haha! Well, cheerio!! Ahh old songs are so nice!

Well physio posting at SGH is over.... It was quite informative and less sian than last year actually haha... Everyone was happier in general, but maybe its cos physiotherapists are not under as much stress as doctors... And physios also work shorter hours, more or less, unlike the housemen who have to stay on call sometimes....

Nevertheless, saw the spine dept, the sports physio (which is the field of medicine which I'm interested to go into) on the first day, and the ortho diagnostic centre on the second day, where my mother was rehabilitated after her herniated disc, and the satillite gyms in the wards...

Also saw the dirty side of physio... A young man who was involved in a traffic accident riding a motorcycle and had broken many of his major bones, including his skull and spine, and was in a semi comatose state... When he breathed sometimes it sounded as though he was gargling water, much like how Chong should have been breathing when he faked his epileptic fit... never going to get a motorcycle... I mean, like he was not much older than myself and his future has probably been snuffed out, or at least put on hold... No matter what, all the best to him...

Saw patients who had had strokes, parts of their skull removed and so on... Also met an Indian man who had Parkinson's, so although his mind was alert, his movements, facial expressions and speech was impaired.... But when the nurses asked me what school I was from and I said "victoria jc", he got very excited... So the physios gave me a chair and had me sit down n talk to him...

Though his speech was very muffled, through a long process of listen-repeat-and-watch-him-nod, I gathered that he was a student / teacher at VJ (I said "VJC or VS?" and he repeatedly muttered "VJC" so that's confirmed) under Mrs Lee Phui Man (cos he was repeatedly saying "your previous principal", after I told him our present principal was Mrs Chan)... he also asked me if we still had celebrations in school, to which I replied yes, and to which he seemed to smile a little =) Evidently the VJ spirit is hard to forget! We had quite a pleasant talk, although at times he seemed to get depressed and I had to use the TLC learnt in St. John to reassure him....

But at the end of it, before he was being wheeled back to the ward, he surprised me by asking "Are you a Christian?", to which I replied "yes", and then he proceeded with "which church do you go to?" "Christian Community Church"... Then he motioned me closer and gave me this verse

For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them
-Matthew 18:20

More or less word accurate! Then he shook my hand and left... I was quite stunned at first, but the nurses said that given that he was quite educated, maybe he could have converted? Still, it was a hmmm moving? is that the word? experience... Anyway if I have an opporunity to run into my chinese teacher in VJ again, I shall ask her if she knew him... But if he was a Christian, maybe he took comfort that we two were "gathered in God's name", and for that, I would be happy...

Anyway, thanks to the physios Brenda, Jennifer, Mic, Edwin, Sulyn, William + staff, Adon + staff and the physio students Zhi Fen and Shafawati whom we met on the first day, and, like Belle and Julian last year, gave me a lot of useful information on the course etc..

After the posting, I could then be free to return to fencing and FM... my third home-away-from-home, but I shall save that for another post... Cheerio!
