| Sunday, February 17, 2008 One of the groups of people I feel thoroughly comfortable with in hall. KE's handball team came a long way, to use the cliche, since last year according to the seniors. Hope I can do better for them if I stay next year. Found this really good website for handball training hoho... Thanks, photocomm =) Eventful saturday. Started with fencing training where I scored my first ever back flick =D Though it was against a freshie. I was point aligned, he lunged, I flicked for his infraspinous region of his scapula and got it waha... The flickiness of the FS blade.. But when I tried it against a more experienced fencer, I died like mad. My more experienced vice-captain didn't think much of flicking against lefties hehe... And cos I kept doing the same thing plus technique not very good I lost 6-7, 3-7 oops... But Pek was very happy that he beat me for the first time =Pp Then went to watch The Kite Runner with my classmates... Storyline was pretty predictable but very touching all the same, the way everything connected together in the end =) I LOVE the aerial scenes! The kites really seem like birds of prey dogfighting with each other n etc... So it was good movie! Went to check up on fighter kites on wikipedia and its so interesting =D Hung around Gerry's house for a while watching them eat and discussing various things (cos my aunt came down from malaysia so had to go home n eat). One of the longer lasting subjects was the relative standards of canteen food. Alon and I condemned the Science Canteen and praised Arts, while Stella protested that Arts wasn't that good and she liked Science canteen food etcetc. Haha I guess everyone after a while has a predisposed bias against the place at which they are eating at the moment. For e.g. during rag, for those of us who'd just come out of the army, the science canteen was really good! But I guess once you have a bad encounter in the canteen (stalls shall not be named), then it leaves a long lasting impression and certain dishes carry with them bad memories. For e.g., again, I shall always associate chee cheong fun with the stuff in B M T which I'm convinced is made of rubber, and the paus and lo mai kais which are hard enough to stop an armour attack. On the other hand, those of us who visit other canteens rarely would make a run on those stalls which are not recommended, since we're not driven by a need to not eat the same stuff everyday (even highly lauded claypot turns a bit tiring after time), hence we're doomed to forever remain biased against our own canteen hahaha =D I guess the concept of "The-canteen-tastes-better-in-the-other-faculty" is summed by up Liling who said "I think NUS food is better than NTU food... and I haven't even eaten NUS food before!" Well busy week ahead... Here's to not getting vivaed. ~JcZw~ at 10:28 pm
