| Thursday, February 28, 2008 Driving is improving marginally from totally incompetent to being not very good but at least knowing what I'm doing wrong haha...Did three slope starts yesterday and didn't die on any of them. I did stall once when I was on Ubi Ave 3 and a car (qualified driver at the wheel) darted out across to the opposite side and I jammed the brake though. A little boy also took it upon himself to run into my path while I was accelerating from the traffic light doing a right turn. He n his mum crossed the road already so I was at half clutch moving off when he suddenly ran BACK to pick up something he dropped. My instructor and I both went "ArgH!" and hit our brakes together. Heh the car didn't even stall cos my other foot jammed down the clutch at the same time and we stopped with a safe distance to spare. But for the next 100m or so my instructor was describing to me how little children are the bane of drivers (besides taxis) and punctuated his tirade with not just a few vivid descriptions of the male reproductive organs. The thing which I found the most astonishing is the fact that the little boy's mother didn't even react. I mean, her son was virtually asking for it, but I don't think she even noticed he had run back. Which is kinda weird. If it was MY mother at that age she would have her hand grabbing my collar before I got out of a 1 meter radius of her, and gotten a blistering, tympanic plate-eroding talking to. (Cos it happened once before in the carpark of IMM in Jurong and let me say to my mama, whom I know reads this blog, that I'm very grateful that you grabbed me before I got pulverized like a tomato heh). Anyway thank goodness I stepped on the correct pedal, or it would have been cutains.. The video clip that came with the last VJC newsletter gave me a rush of memories thinking of the crazy VJ culture which we are all so proud of. It also inadverdantly gave me a glimpse of the inside of the vaunted girls' toilet which, by all accounts, is the equivalent to our V4 one... The videos on VJC in youtube always give me this sympathetic discharge, especially when I watch those of our mass dances (which I'm slowly forgetting sigh), and our own farewell assembly video. I wonder whether the girls who performed the video know that the song they did was the same one which Mrs C han and Co. performed in the renown Teachers' Day celebration when the teachers instead of students put up the performances =) if so, it's really a cool touch haha... Also watched my Tango Wing Social Night video screened during service term graduation the past few days. I'm forgetting a number of those people whom I worked with while I was in there (though not my platoon. Well, not yet anyway), and of course, Daniel Hap, Li Heng and the others serve as living reminders here in NUS. All it took was for Hap to remind me (can't remember what was the random occasion), when the two of us led the section up and down a hill looking for a checkpoint until both of us fell into two consecutive deep holes one after another haha... And how he was panting like an overheated boiler by the time we reached the top. I've never seen greater vasodilation than on OCT Daniel Hap's face on that memorable day in the exercise area =Pp... Well, shall stop here for now. Enough reminicising (or however it's spelt). ~JcZw~ at 1:14 pm
