| Friday, February 11, 2005 This is the second entry I’m writing for cross country. Where’s the first one, you might ask. I don’t know. Ask the computer. I wrote it when I came home and the computer went and wiped it out. I was so disgusted that I immediately did what I came home to do – sleep. Anyway, this one will probably making more sense rather than the ramblings of a half awake, aching poor old nut of a fuzzball. Today was cross country. Like duh, I said that just now. Came to school, slung my bag into the locker. Went to meet the OSSIS people. Assembly as per normal, then into the run proper. The girls, according to tradition, ran first. We guys were hanging around the start line waiting to see them off. Whoo… almost missed them, saw them only at the last minute. Their departure came, and it was an amazing sight to see I don’t know how many hundreds of people running for the gate, all in different colours. The first girl came back so fast that she scared us, left the guys gaping in astonishment. The rest filed in soon after, about 15 minutes? on average after the start. Trina was the first girl in our class to arrive. Prap and Li Ling arrived soon after. Not bad what, our class girls came in relatively fast. Everyone arrived within the first half of the runners. All our class girls did well yeah =) Next was our turn. We started at the 400m track of which we had to cover one round before we started the route at east coast. At the starting cue, my thought processes began to flow past in the following manner: Ears: Starting horn detected Brain: Legs, keep running until you’ve covered 4.8 km, no stopping Eyes: Outside of the track. Legs will have to work more to keep up Brain: Speed up slightly if you want to keep up. Reaching end of track Ears: Detect people cheering for you. Sounds like the OSSIS ppl. Brain: No distraction, don’t look Eyes: Tracking competitor coming close behind. Close up the gap Digestive system: Nausea! Nausea! Slow down, too fast Legs: Slowing, slowing Eyes: Out of the gate, along the pavement. Track too narrow Brain: Onto the grass now Eyes: LAMPOST! EVASIVE NOW! Legs: Swerving. That was a close one, ankle nearly had it there Brain: $^^&(*#&^!!!!!! Legs: Grass to uneven. Nearly sprained the ankles a few times already Brain: Back to the pavement. Speed is good, maintain maintain Eyes: Overhead bridge coming up Legs: s*** Brain: Maintain speed Legs: You think lactic acid very easy to counter one arh Brain: Whatever. Maintain speed. Eyes: Tracking distance. Overtake now. Brain: Take advantage of everyone slowing down Eyes: Down the bridge. Along the path Legs: The last run was too tiring Eyes: No spots Lungs: No breathlessness Digestive: No nausea Brain: Not tired, continue. Focus on the next lamppost. Just concentrate on running to the next lamppost Eyes: Round the pond, upslope Legs: Tiring, maintaining speed is not easy. Brain: Slacken off if you wish. Eyes: People overtaking. Maintain speed if you want to keep your position Ears: More people closing behind. Footsteps detected Eyes: Oh boy. They are close Legs: Sighz, speeding up Eyes: Along costa sands. Not long now. Endure Brain: Report fatigue status? Eyes: No spots Lungs: No breathlessness Digestive: No nausea Brain: Not tired, continue. The problem of being a first-aider is that you become hypochondriactic. Eyes: Back to the bridge now Legs: S***!!!! Legs: PANT PANT PANT! Eyes: Down the bridge Brain: Not long now. Endure Ears: Detect Phoenix people cheering… Eyes: Looks like its Sheen Yee n friends…. Brain: Haha, thanks! Legs, just a final effort, round the corner Eyes: Geraldine and Li Ling Ears: Cheering Lungs: No breath to reply, continue Legs: Not much more to give. Can’t move any faster Brain: Open up your stride? Legs: Trying, trying, not easy Eyes: Dawn Xunai, Prap, finishing line Ears: Behind behind, warning warning Eyes: Green. Its Lynx and a year 2 to boot Legs: I’m trying! Eyes: He’s past Brain: Across the finish. We’re done That’s about how my brain worked, in disjointed, incoherent bits. I’m not bluffing. When you’re running the heat does funny things to you. I neglect the part that after the run I felt like emptying the contents of my alimentary canal, but luckily I didn’t. Went back to the gate to sit with the girls. The boys in the class streamed in over the next 20 minutes. Apparently my position was 127, the first in the class, and the same position as Trina’s had been…haha…. We registered our positions, and then there was mass dancing. Again. I nearly dislocated my shoulder while cheering. At the “It’s Victoria! Yeah” after the “Yo VJC” cheer, when we punched the air, I distinctly felt my shoulder go “Click clack”. Ouch.’ We had lucky draw (no one from OSSIS won anything though), and prize presentation. The top 2 runners from the girls and the top runner from the guys were all from Phoenix! Haha.. On the other hand we didn’t win the champion house cos mebbe our average was too high. Haha… what does it matter, everyone still did really well… After the whole thing ended, then OSSIS went to TM to watch movie… I followed them to TM but didn’t go for the movie… I was like really tired…. So went home to type in the blog, got it wiped out, n went to sleep as I’ve mentioned. Yeah…. An eventful day, and I don’t need to say that it left a lasting euphoric effect on me, even though I was tired…. =Pp… VJ really rulez! OSSIS also… haha…. ~JcZw~ at 11:40 pm
